User Tips

1Setup your Job Folder before you start quoting.
2Save your plans into your job folder before adding them into Plan Scan.
3Always use your last quote as your New Quote Template. This will ensure your last lot of Template changes are included.
4Always fill-in the Job Details.
5When adding your plans into Plan Scan, try Renaming and Calibrating them as you go. If your unable to rename them because they are all in a single file format, just add the file, then 'Rename' them in Plan Scan. Be sure to calibrate them to scale as you go. This will save you time!
6Start Taking-off your quantities in Plan Scan and send them into the quote as you go! Always open the Work Group you are working on while taking off your QTY's as this will help you to double check your checklist of Items as you go.
7Auto Qty
Cost Schedule Items with Auto Qty's setup will always be located below the Item that the principal quantity gets entered into. So be sure to always scroll down through each Work Group after you have entered a quantity to check the Items which have auto calculated?
8Adjust Columns Widths
You can adjust column widths by moving your curse over the line between the column headings and drag it out wider or narrower by holding down the left mouse button on it.

Wall Frames

Their are several ways to quote wall frames, firstly you need to establish weather your walls is a stick or prefabricated frame and if their are irregular wall shapes? e.g Angled Walls, etc. These factors can change how you measure it. See the options below.

Wall Frames
Timber List ► Wall Frames ► and find the wall type and height from the list and select its Timber Type and Size then enter the Wall length in Lineal Meters (Lm). You can enter a quantity manually or send it from Plan Scan after you have completed its takeoff. After the quantity has been entered, scroll down to check the Wall Frame List has quantified and priced the Wall Frame components. E.g. Studs, Bottom & Top Plates, Nogging, etc.

Plan Scan
Use the Vertical Area option in Plan Scan to measure the Wall Frames on the Floor Plans. By using the Vertical Area option this allows you to measure the Area of the Wall and the Length at the same time. Plan Scan Item Links are used to send these quantities into your quote to be costed.

Carpentry Labour
Cost Schedule ► Carpentry - Wall Frames ► then find the best suited labour Install item and enter the required (Lm) or (m2) of Wall Frame. This will then calculate the Labour Cost and Labour Hrs. Carpentry Labour has 3 options for calculating the Wall Frame Labour Cost and Labour Hrs. They can be worked out either in (Lm of Wall) or (m2 of Wall) or (m2 of Floor Area) Rates. So be sure to check you are using the right item for your task. Also, check the Rate being used is allocating the required Labour Cost and Hrs and adjust accordingly. Also, you can automatically send in your quantities from Plan Scan using the Plan Scan Item links.

Plan Scan
Plan Scan ► Add ► Vertical Area ► Item Name ► Wall (select from the list) ► Start Area (measure the Wall) ► Finish Area ► Send QTY (button) ► Send to Quote (check the item links are set to your requirements before sending).
Plan Scan Item Link e.g. Send To ► Cost Schedule ► Work Group ► Carpentry - (Wall Frames) ► Item ► Install Wall Frame (Prefab) > 2700mm High.

Cost Schedule
Cost Schedule ► Carpentry - Wall Frames ► find the best suited Item required for the task.
If this item is quoted by a supplier, then enter the quote total cost into the Quoted by: Rate (inc GST) (grey field).

Carpentry Labour
Go to: Cost Schedule ► Work Group ► Carpentry (Wall Frames) ► Item (Select the best suited Item for your requirement). E.g. Install Wall Frames (Prefab) & Trusses SOG (m2) (OR) Install Wall Frame (Prefab) G/Floor Area (m2).
SOG = Slab On Ground (Area m2)

Note: The Timber List doesn't get used for pricing Prefabricated Wall Frames.
Wall Frames
(Angled & Irregular Shapes)
Irregular Wall shapes are quickest measured, quantified and priced as an Area (m2). This can be done using a Plan Scan Vertical Area or Area depending on if you are measuring from a Floor Plan or Elevations respectively.
A common Item used is found in: Cost Schedule ► Work Group (Carpentry - Wall Frames) ► Item (Supply & Install - Wall Frames (Stick) LB 450 Ctrs (m2)).
It is normally best to first measure the standard or same height walls before measuring the irregular/angled walls as you will use a separate Item to measure with.

Measuring It Up
When quantifying an irregular wall shape for its timber components, it is easiest to measure it as an Area on your elevations. If you can't see this wall on your elevation you will need to measure it from your Floor Plan using Vertical Area in Plan Scan.

Enter manually or send your Area (m2) from Plan Scan into the below Item:
E.g: Cost Schedule ► Carpentry - Wall Frames ► Supply & Install - Wall Frame (Stick) LB 450 Ctrs (m2).

Quantity & Labour
In the default template this will allocate 5 Lm / m2 of timber to build the wall frame. It will also allow a Labour Cost and Labour hrs. Adjust the Rate of this Item to achieve the timeframe required. This Item will Auto calculate the timber required and will populate the Timber List with its QTY to be priced into the quote. Always check the Timber List Items have priced into the quote as you go!

Step 1Firstly, go to the Cost Schedule ► Brickwork. Make sure you understand how this work group works first before going to Plan Scan and measuring up your quantity.
Step 2If you have plans, then add them into Plan Scan. You can use Plan Scan to measure your brickwork quantity two ways. First being, from a Floor Plan in which you will need to use the Vertical Area option and secondly using your Plan Elevations and measuring a normal Area. Both of these options are already preloaded inbto the sample quote template when you receive the software.
Step 3After you have finished measuring the Area of Brickwork, it is best to send the QTY into the Quote as you go. Always do a quick check of the Brickwork workgroup in the Coast Schedule to make sure its correct before continuing.

You can manually adjust the Brickwork quantities if required in its Work Group. You can also deduct and add brick courses to allocate a specific brick type or size within the wall. See the Cost Schedule ► Brickwork ► Course Additions (+) & Deductions (-).
